Empty Homes Target Exceeded by 20%

In 2011-2012 the council were able to bring more homes back on to the market than ever before.

At the beginning of the year, the empty properties team were set the target of bringing 400 houses out of private neglect and on to the market.  Since then 508 homes have been been made available to the public, exceeding the original target by an impressive 20%.

This is partly due to a new focus on properties that have been empty for 6 months or less.  This approach has allowed for a quicker turnaround in development which was designed to meet the urgent demand for more affordable housing.

Aware that this is not a permanent solution, the council has continued to uphold their commitment to reintroducing properties that have stood empty for longer periods of time.  This includes some that have stood empty for over 10 years!
